So, this Sunday I was out on my usual route walking our German shepherd cross, and came across a friendly ish looking (what I thought at the time to be a n Akita) looking a little flummoxed. The dogs played, chasing around and then I wondered where the owner was.
I got y o/h to come meet me as I hadn’t realized that this dog was a stray – her collar had had the name tag cut off, you could see the frayed thread. We rang the dog warden, who unsurprisingly was un contactable at pre 8a.m on a Sunday. We left a message and rang he dogs trust when they opened in Leeds. We agreed to go up, after giving this dog time in our back garden with some food and water. Took her on the journey to Leeds, c.20miles or so, travelled really well and actually a well behaved dog sat in the boot of Mrs. fmc car with our dog.
By the time we got there they had filled up, having taken on 6 new strays! They did however scan her with the chip reader – which revealed that the owners address was Stockton on Tees, send gave her name, and breed. We all thought that it was just the original breeder who had had her chipped. No phone number and only an address. Mrs. fmc agreed to bring her back tomorrow and they would make space for her. Rang the surrounding area dog warden sand logged all the details, along with the details on a charity website.
Many phone calls on the Monday between various parties, turns out the owner was in the next village as he was viewing a similar dog, that had been handed in to a drop in centre for stray dogs.
Turns out the guy had had his 8 Month old Shaiba stolen from Stockton-On-tees and during transport by the villains she had escaped, from presumably the car. He had rung the police, and they had contacted the dog wardens, initially in his locality, and then further afield. Thankfully we had persevered and not handed her over at the first opportunity.
