Hi,

Seems my little dachshund is starting to get bald ears and a growing bald patch on his tail.

I've visited the vet and had a blood test and scrape test, both of which revealed no issues.

His coat is in excellent condition otherwise. . . the vet is baffled, I am baffled and google seems to show some websites saying this can happen to dachshunds but with no understanding to the cause, or worse no solution to stop the hair loss.

Anybody here come across this problem and have ideas how to stop it?

Here's the little guy feeling sorry for himself on route to the vet again. . .

and here is his tail. . .

Cheers
Al

Have they done a test to try and rule out cushings disease?

Not for that specifically, what would they do? Already had a blood test.

It's a specific test and requires 2 blood samples taken 2hrs apart (I think!) and an injection of a drug given that will help indicate if Cushing's or not. It's just a thought and there are usually other signs with the condition but alopecia that is not itchy is one of them.

Thyroid conditions are another possible, though often the hair loss is on the either side of the body.

Thanks, checked up on Cushings. Worth talking to the vet about that, he has has a few of the symptoms listed.

Thyroid seems to be ok.
