Hi all,
We have a rescue dog who is part Jack Russel, part Spaniel and possibly part Daschund!
We have had him around 9 years now and as time goes on, he has become more afraid of various noises. Generally in the house he is ok but outside, the only place we can take him where he actually walks and runs is the beach.
The list of what scares him seems to be increasing:
Sneezing, fly's buzzing around, the Beep on the TV to mask swear words, the "i've started so i'll finish" warning on mastermind, the noise on family fortunes for an incorrect answer, shotguns going off, any loud bang, etc. etc. Sometimes he wakes up shaking!
Forests, woods and countryside are generally a no go, whereby he just starts shaking to the point his back legs can't support him. He then try's to get back to the car and we end up carrying him, either until he calms down enough or we end up going home.
What set's it off is normally shotguns or bird scarers. Where we live they can generally be heard throughout the day.
We've had him checked out by the vet and all is ok. We've tried thunder shirts, ignoring him, positive reinforcement, playing CD's of loud noises, but he is getting no better.
Does anyone have any experience or have any recommendations of what can be done?
