Here's a happy story about cats and cars -

The car -

Went to move one of our 4x4's which has been parked up for a couple of months, and nearly shat myself when a cat jumped out of the back. It's a soft top and I obviously didn't do the back up properly.

Then I saw the kittens -

Went away for a bit and then crept back. Mum had returned and seems to be quite tame.

So we now seem to have acquired some cats, and have temporarily lost the use of the car.

We've been feeding her farm-fresh organic beefburgers (shops are closed here today - public holiday) and she's wolfed down 2, and drunk 2 full pots of water.

They are very pretty especially the ginger ones. Do you know who owns them?

Me smile

I've seen the mum quite a lot in our garden recently, but as far as I'm aware it doesn't belong to any close neighbours - we know them all. Mum cat is very thin, so I think she might be a stray.

Awww. Do get them chipped and snipped asap. Or you may run out of transport!

I shall look forward to seeing more pictures as the situation, and the kittens, develop.

Awww, well done OP.

You can get packets of raw minced meat (lamb/beef/chicken) from Pets at Home and perhaps offer some of that? Will be cheaper than farm shop meat too..

It's cheaper to buy tesco market value mince than the stuff from pets @ home, which is rather ironic considering the meat must be better...

Chipped? Aren't cats fast enough anyway?

Will have a chat with a friendly vet.

I work in agriculture and get loads of free stuff - the beefburgers came from a customer who needed one of our tractors to pull him out of a ditch a couple of days ago. We don't charge for stuff like that, but I often get free meat, cheese, milk etc.

Our home food bill is pretty tiny all things considered. I just need a customer who owns a bakery smile

Instant family!

Don't let them eat to excess; cats that have been very hungry can gorge themselves and be sick.

Very cute! smile The tortoiseshell is very pretty.

Is there a cats protection league local to you OP? They will neuter strays free of charge, and could find new homes for the kittens too. Best to have the mother cat spayed asap as they can get all kinds of diseases from breeding, not to mention an increase in strays.

Should I be putting a litter tray in there? I've had a look (and a sniff) and I can't see where they're going to the loo.

I guess mum goes outside in the garden, but the kittens won't be able to get out yet.

Might be worth checking with Bex but I am wondering if moving them into your house would be better - safer, warmer etc and I would be concerned that the kittens might fall out...
