Towing Vehicle for Horse Trailer on a budget
Discussion
Hey All
I've been recommended the following:
300TDI Land Rover Discovery
Manual
1996 (not sure why - something to do with not getting TD5s with the air suspension and electronics???)
X pack if pos
Get without sunroof as they tend to leak
Any recommendations for other cheap reliable, cheap to fix towing motors???

Friend of mine has just done this. She got a P plate Land Cruiser 3.0 for around £3500 iirc. Pulls an Ifor Williams 506 with 2 big hunters in it no bother; maintains a steady 60 up hills with ease.
Try a Disco with the sort of load you'll be towing; I've found them to be glacially slow when pulling away from rest which can be "interesting" from junctions.

Why would be because you mentioned on a budget. An early Disco (TDi 200s are better than the 300) if you can find one without rust or Landcruiser if you aren't pulling heavy horses. TD5s also suffer with expensive injector faults.I've been recommended the following:

Your username does not help our image as Trooper drivers
Never heard good things about the 3ltr, loads seem to have had injector seal probs and run on their own engine oil to destruction.

You have now.I prefer the 3.0. More refined, more power, better mpg. Just better.
OK, you need to keep an eye on it, but still : better.
The Injector probs were covered in a few recalls, and will still be covered by Isuzu even if it lets go now, 10yrs old.
(Porsche - I would love to take note of this !)
