Noticed a tick (a bit bigger than a rice crispy) On the dogs lip. Couldn't hold him still to remove it so popped down to the vets. By the time I got there the pesky thing had fallen off, does this happen all the time but I don't notice it.

This time of year when the grass is longer. The little buggers climb high and wait until something hairy walks past.

My last dog used to come with me in the car to Sainsburys, and when I got back in with the shopping she would put one leg over my shoulder.

To cut a long story short, after one of these happenings a few years ago I noticed that one of her "little pets" had attached itself to my shoulder.

I went to A&E and asked could they do anything about it or should I go down the vets ... getmecoat

We also use a German natural tick product which has resulted in no ticks until 2 weeks after the product was meant to last...

Do they effect longer haired breeds more? In 4 1/2years my Weim' hasn't had any (guess I'm tempting fate now) despite going to places where others have complained about being "infested".

It depends on conditions where you live and where the dogs spends its time. Mow the lawn, and all that jazz, and you will. It have them about so much. Have your dog charging through meadows and they will more likely pick them up. My white cat gets ticks more than the dog does, purely because he ranges into the meadows whereas the dog is seldom in there for long.

Thats why I ask, because he's always off the lead in these areas and roams the thickest undergrowth. By all the reports I've seen/heard, he should be covered in them.

Where there are deer, the grass will have ticks in.

Think I have had to remove about 4 in £ and a bit years from our dog. She always gets them on the belly and spends pretty much everyday in some long grass. We use a tick tool. still hate doing it though.

Put a bit of Marmite in their food every few days (4 to 5) - helps keep the ticks off as they don't like the yeast!

i easily spot them on my bulldog (she is white) we have a tool like a pen with a small like fishing gut in a loop on top
get them off right away and burn the little buggers

Yes. Did not find it as successful as the natural stuff we now use.
