GENUINE Vet bed (basic is good - white top, green base). Machine washable and moisture (!) goes straight through. Use this in the crate / overnight bed.

http://www.petsathome.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servle...

Always make sure young puppy has somewhere he can call his own, e.g crate with door open, throughout the day. When he/she is in there, leave him/her alone. All pups (and dogs!) need a place they can call their own where they will not me molested / played with - tell the kids this!!!

Pets at Home - the biggest size (this one) is by far the best value.

The travel crate will be a waste of time on the first trip

Wen I picked up my pup he went nuts when we first tried to crate him in the car .

He / She will be best served sitting on someone's lap .

A travel water bowl is handy for the car

First puppy came home in a large cat carrier (only a 10 minute car journey). Second puppy was in a crate - poop everywhere (was supposed to be 4 hour journey but we had long delays). Third puppy was sat on my lap, on a towel, he slept the entire journey (3 hours). I'd definitely recommend the towel and puppy on your lap (assuming you have somebody else driving wink ).

Good luck

The usual, and I'm sure the seller wil do this but get a cut of the blanket or towel the pups mum uses. The pup will feel comforted by the mums scent.

Be very careful which toys you give your pup. Nothing with squeakers until he's bigger.

Don't think you'll need the bowels. The pup will come with it's own that'll turn anything you feed him into a special smelly floor covering... A couple of bowls will be useful though wink

You will need a camera to record everything and fulfill your "puppy pictures" post duty.

You might also like to take with you a soft cuddly toy you have bought, and ask the breeder to rub it all over mum, to serve the same purpose. As breeders we supply one with each pup - identical to the ones they had with them in the pen. Keep it with the pup on the way home (I was often surprised by new owners wanting to put the pup in the car (of course!) but the toy in the boot!).

Thanks guys.

Puppy is home sat on my daughters and partners knee on way back slept most of way.

Got it home it followed me around the garden and did its business made a fuss of it. let it have a roam around inside for a bit because it was empty. fed it took it outside it went again.

So there is me thinking im the best dog trainer in the world it walks to heel recalls, sits and is already toilet trained.

3 hours later its used to the garden and house does what it wants just dissapears into garden with its new favourite toy no longer recalling smile not as easy as I thought this dog lark

Edit every time i take it outside it does it business so far so good.

dog is great only one issue so far im trying to entice it into his crate using treats and its toys that it likes. Its having none of it. Its like its scared of it so i dont want to force it in. Any ideas?

Leave the crate open in living room where you guys are relaxing, maybe put a blanket over the top, have the entrance facing you so it can see you when it does go in, put the bed in there or blankets. If it goes in make no fuss in the slightest, ignore it like its perfectly normal. On no accounts lock the doors, not even for a minute, maybe after a minute a simple " good dog" to reassure it.

Good advice above , don't force him in if you got a blanket or anything with his mums scent or his puppy pack scent leave that inside his open crate
Lots of praise once he goes in the crate and avoid disturbing him in there

If he is sleeping on some one or in a area what I did was carry him over to his crate and put him in there to sleep , he picked up really quickly that it was his special place and within a couple of days was in and out of there
no bother

As long as his bed and blankets are in there he will eventually adopt it as his bed, may take a night or so of restlesness i.e numerous sleeping spots.
Watch a bit of tv and forget all about him and he will prob go into it when you not looking smile
