Giant Green Caterpillar?

Anyone know what this is and what it's likely to turn into? Also, should we get inside and lock the doors and windows?

Looks like an elephant hawk moth to me

I'm not sure it was, the photo was just a quick snapshot on the phone. It was a brighter green than it looks in the pictures.
