Having a wee problem with the dog! Dog's house trained which he picked up pretty quick. However we moved about 2 or 3 months ago and if we go out for more than 30 mins its pretty much guaranteed he'd have had a piddle on the wooden floor in the hall.

We have tried the hardest bking possible and also totally ignoring him and what he's done. He knows he's done wrong as he won't come and greet you.

How can we stop it?

Did the previous occupants have a dog?
It's possible your dog is trying to cover an old scent.
Deep clean and deodoriser might help?

Have you tried crating him until he gets more settled.

Make sure it has a comfy bed in it, a kong with some food paste in to keep him entertained and put a blanket over the top so it feels like a den for him.

This will give him a place he feels safe and secure and encourage his bladder control as I'm yet to encounter a dog that will mess in his own bed.

I think i'm going to try this, I still have his crate from when he was younger. Shall we cover the cage with a blanket so that there's no light and he can't see through it?

Giving him a bking won't make any difference.

Go back to basics again & reward when he goes outside, also clean the area inside where he's messed there could be other scents there he's marking over.

Cover the top sides and back leaving the front open for him, think of it as if you're creating a tunnel or hole in the ground for him with just one entrance/exit to guard. Also make sure you leave it open for him to use whilst your in the house as well. Mine used to go in their voluntarily when he wasn't feeling 100% which was a clear sign he saw it as his safe place rather than a form of punishment.

I'm moving house myself soon and have our first baby on the way so think I might reprise the crate just to give him a place to get away from it all if he needs it.

With regards the Kong I recommend filling with salmon paste sandwich spread type stuff with bits of dog biscuit and freezing it for a few hours. That way it will last him longer and take more effort on his part.

We clean it everytime he makes a mess, as well as routing house cleaning. Anyway, noted - back to basics!

It's a valid point about an existing smell, if an animal pee'd in that spot several months ago he could still smell it. However in my experience if a dog is scent marking an area he would do it whether you were in the house or not.

I learnt this to my detriment cue the first time I took the dog round to a new girlfriends house, he walked straight over to the area she fed her cat and pee'd on the wall.

Well we moved into the house roughly 2-3 months ago. The previous owners did have a dog but it was a couple of years ago when he went to doggy heaven. Their dog was allowed in all the same places he can go so I don't know why he keeps piddling in the same spots downstairs on the laminate floor.

He hasn't done it in front of us, he did supposedly do it in front of my partners gran when she was staying with us but I put that down to him knowing she can't boss him about.
