We(well, wife really) is getting a pup next week, and she has been promised the pick of the litter.
Is there anything that we need to look out for/anything to consider when getting the "best" pup?(Although I suspect, knowing the missus, that it will come down to "Oooh look at that one,she is SOOOOOO cute,I want! I want! I want! smile)
Pup is a Bichon Frise(AKA little gay puffball biggrin)

Tell me abut it! She has been banned from getting it the full blown "bubble" look

(not that she ever listens to me,but *I* wont be seen with it if it does get done like that!)

Yes - get a video by Pat Hastings.

Also, why is she getting pick of the litter? That is normally reserved for the breeder or stud dog owner? I would actually be a little concerned that neither the breeder nor stud provider want pick.

I was talking to my parents about this, they are providing their dog as a stud and are just going to be getting the cash from the sale of the pick of the litter, they dont need another dog nor want the hassle of selling it.

It could be that the breeders do this regularly and have an arrangement.

Yep,stud dog doesnt want another,so presumably just got paid for his, ahem,"services",nor does breeder want to keep them. They are KC registered & dad is too-bit of a champ allegedly

Well as I said I get concerned when neither of the parties will keep a puppy, but then that is because I don't like the breeding just for money aspect.

You can get copies of the pedigrees and check the COI on the KC website and can check the show results if you wish to make sure it is indeed a champ.

ETA - will your wife be showing?

Best to get the extended pedigree that goes back something like 6 gnerations. Costs £15 from the KC.

Well, the wind did once catch her skirt, and of course there was that incident in the car park that night ....smile
Nah,this is purely a pet. I would have loved a Lab but she just wont have a big dog frown

LOL.

The reason I asked is because I don't know a breeder who would give pick of the litter to a pet home - no offence BUT it is the way of the doggy world.. Sad as that may be.

Have the parents had all the health checks appropriate to the breed? Have you seen both parents together with the pups?

Have you seen the health test results too? And confirmed the COI of the litter?
