Has anyone had a problem with their dog having stomach problems related to Meloxivet or Metacam?

My greyhound has been poorly. I think it's likely something she took while eating grass out on a walk but also trying to rule out other possibilities.

Thanks,

Meloxicam is a well used product in both cats and dogs and is a very effective pain relief and anti inflammatory product. It gives many many pets either short term relief or long term relief depending on the condition. When you compare the amount px to the dogs/ cats that react it is very very low.

However it does have side effects for some pets, just like ibuprofen in people. They are both NSAIDs so can cause gastric irritation resulting in vomiting and/or diarrhoea.

To reduce the risk it should always be given with food, dosed accurately (underdosing is preferable to being to generous with dosing) only ever ONCE a day (and the same time every day. A few problems are from people giving twice a day even when warned not to. If all this is being done and you still get a problem, stop giving it and let your vet know.

Occasionally it can be coincidental so another reason for a vomiting or diarrhoea episode but made worse if still continue to give the meloxicam.
