This is Sonny, he lives at the farm where we keep our horses. We see him everyday and the owners travel a lot, so when they do we look after the farm for up to a month at a time, have done for years, so he was like half our dog, felt like our dog.

Sorry to say Sonny died last night :crying:

Went for a walk on Friday and think he ate something he shouldnt have, as he always does!

On Saturday he was being sick a lot and his stomach looked bit swollen, went vet on Sunday and after some tests they said they think he has fluid in his abdomen and need to operate. They called his owner last night when they had him open and said his pancreas was 5 times as big as it should be and his stomach / intestines was all twisted or something twisted round it? Decided not to wake him up.

Me and the wife were in bits this morning when we found out :crying: I know he wasnt our dog but we spent so much time with him and looked after him for up to a month at a time while his owners were away so he felt like ours if you know what I mean.

Gutted he wont be running over to my car to greet me and jumping up, wiping his slobber all over my jeans.

frown. So sorry, no shame in being upset over a friends pet, I helped with the final act of my friends dog, we all shed tears that day.

It sounds like he suffered a gdv with other complications, very serious condition, RIP Sonny, you were one handsome chap.

Thanks guys, yes it is amazing how much animals touch us, he just made everyone so happy when they saw him as he was such a happy dog.

He was only 6 (I think, I'm terrible with ages) so should have had years left in him to enjoy the farm.

Sorry OP.

I don't suppose you ever found out what/where he ate? Just seeing a lot of stories lately of people having dogs poisoned.

Hi, the more we think about it now we think it must have been some underlying condition he had that has either just flared up or become agitated by something he has eaten.
At first I thought about poison too, but maybe it was just some dodgy meat that made him feel ill and has caused these underlying problems to come to light.

Thanks for your thoughts.
