RIP Mush. What to do now?
Discussion
The poor little fella unexpectedly dies last night. Can't believe what a hole he has left. I'm a 42 year old, cold-hearted person that hardly sheds a tear at a funeral....but I haven't stopped today. That fluffy little fella has been through so much with us, I can't bear it.
Anyway, self-pity aside, Mushy leaves behind Tank the Bulldog "brother" and Chilli jnr, 1 next week. Both are missing him already, that is clear. Should we replace immediately? Should we wait? What's best to cheer Tank up?
Cheers.

Apologies, Mush was a Pug! He was more than a dog though, and has been with us through so much. I can't believe what a hole he has left. I lay part of the blame with the vets, but no point in following that up.
Just need to help Tank. He's depressed that his best mate didn't come home. God, here I go again...

First of all I'm sorry for your loss, really hits you hard I know.
We lost our rescue b
h Gem very suddenly in July a couple of years ago and it was devastating, she and Benny had been together for over 5 years (since Benny was 12 mths old) so were very bonded. He was very subdued for a while and missed her a lot, we paid extra attention to him but they get things from canine pals us humans just can't give. One oddity that we didn't even think about was that he had become so accustomed marking over where she had gone either out and about or at home that suddenly we had difficulty in getting him to go!
We were always going to get another b
h but it had to be the right one for Benny, visited lots of rescues and saw quite a few dogs until we (and him) settled on Dee Dee who we brought home in the October. 2 years on and they're the best of friends, dynamic is different than the one he had with Gem though.

As Ali says, you've lost a family member, but only you can know how to deal with that.
If you have Mush's body, letting the others sniff it will help them come to terms with his loss.
Other than that, it'll be you who decides what is best for the rest of them.

Thanks all, I really do appreciate it. I can't believe how much its affected me, and it still does not compute that he's not coming home. He owns our house. He owns our bed...he owns us!
I'm hunting all over the place for a new Pug, as the Mrs is on the verge of a breakdown and I think it will help her, me and Tank. He was so much more than a pet. Mrs C rescued him from the Dubai heat and they spent every day together for years.
To have lost him over something so stupid is making it worse.
Now, does anyone know where I can find a double-coated, Fawn coloured Pug, without the googly eyes?!
Cheers.

Better?
I fostered a few after I lost Stella, I found it hard though because they weren't her.

When you're over the shock of losing Mush, get yourself to an animal rescue place. If you're ready for another dog, you'll know straight away
.
Hiya mate,
.I'll never be over it completely, of that I'm sure. I love all animals (more than most people), so I'd happily take the first one I saw.

I know where you're coming from, you'll never be able to replace Mush, but having another pet around will make the loss easier to come to terms with. Don't rush into anything, if / when you're ready I would say get another dog. I'll never be over it completely, of that I'm sure.
