Hi

We got a rehomed, 2 year old, chocolate Lab a few months ago. She's a bit porky and now on a diet. She is left on her own during the day, but not more than about 4 hours. She has a walk in the morning and afternoon.

Thing is, she's now become un-housetrained. She was fine when she arrived. This started going awry when she got a dodgy tummy, and pooped copiously on the carpet in front of the fireplace overnight. This happened a couple more times once her tummy had recovered. We therefore moved her basket to the utility room overnight, which is a more confined space with a vinyl floor. This has stopped the overnight poopage.

However, she's now going back to poop on the carpet in front of the fireplace, during the day and even when we"re also in the house. She doesn't bark or whine, so short of following her around, it's very difficult to catch her beforehand. We've steam cleaned the carpet with special pet-soiling cleaner, to no avail.

Not sure how she was trained before we got her... We've never punished her, as we haven't caught her in the act. She's regularly let out into the garden, and is happy to potter round outside in the garden. Again, we could follow her round the garden and praise her when she's pooped, but are there any other suggestions out there?

Any ideas welcome,

Cheers,

UV

P.s. apologies for the gratuitous use of the word 'poop'
