Found a pigeon that appears to be in some trouble - hardly moving other than its head and eyes. When I picked it up it was able to move its wings slightly. I've put it in a box with some hay to keep it warm and put the box in the garage out of the rain.

No obvious signs of what is wrong with it and it doesn't appear to be a homing pigeon.

Not sure what else to do / most humane thing to do now (if any).

Any advice appeciated, cheers!

No pleasant way out sadly

Speed is the key to humane... preferably instant

  • .22 air rifle head shot
  • Smack it on the head with a shovel
  • Break it's neck
  • Axe
Or
  • Vet

Just kill it as quickly and cleanly as you can. Spade/hammer/brick/axe, whatever you can lay your hands on really.

Can't think of a "nice" way to despatch it but to avoid squeamish issues after the event, place in bottom of bin liner, swing bin liner hard against nearest wall, dispose of bin liner?

A local wildlife centre should be able to help. They'll be able to assess it and if need be can PTS at the centre.

Pigeon = vermin so put it out of its misery and move on. As has been said whack on the head does the trick if you dont have the knack of necking them.

This being PH it deserves a fitting death. Sealed cardboard box, hosepipe inserted, connected to the exhaust ( with car outside of course ). You may wish to play Queen 'Who wants to live forever' on the car stereo to add to the moment.
