Cat just fell from tree - Cat stories?
Discussion
When I say new cat I mean we've had him from a kitten and is now over 6 months old.
We've been letting him explore a bit beyond the garden and last night went to see where he'd got to so I could bring him in. He was coming back when some birds flew into next doors' (enormous, sun-blocking) tree and he proceeded to climb it to the top. He was above the height of our house roof when he slipped and was hanging on by one paw, trying to get himself back on the branch.
He then fell off and hit the ground behind their fence with a big thump sound. Tried to get over the 2 fences to have a look but it was like Fort Knox.
He came back after probably 5 mins and went and laid in the lounge. He was running about like a nutter after about an hour or so and we've checked him a few times since and he seems really happy.
I guess my point is...
I know we're told that they can fall from heights but to actually watch him fall from 3 stories up and hear him hit the ground, I'm amazed at the fact he's perfectly fine. We're new cat owners so this may be normal to you lot but I'm really impressed at the little guy (after the initial concern anyway).
Got me thinking, does anyone have any amazing cat feat stories?

You think it's worth making a trip? Like I said he seems perfectly fine, running around and playing like his mad usual self. We've checked all over his body and he doesn't seem in any discomfort in any places. Is eating, sleeping and playing fine.
We have had Lola a half bengal nut job now for 18 months from a kitten.
So far she has;
Attached the BT engineer when he came to install our fibre connection, He was knelt down at the phone socket she jumped from the top of her cat tree onto him and just started attacking him.
She did the same to the Sky engineer.
She did the same to the wife.
She snorts at my wife regularly.
Keeps getting shut in my car, I once drove half a mile before she apeared in my rear view mirror and frightened the f
k out of me so much i nearly crashed.
Knocks things over and looks accusingly at the Lucy dog or Lilu the fat black and white slob
I could go one forever with this one she is mental but awesome, we love her to bits!

When I click on that link I get a malware warning from Chrome (referring to jamesneale.com)!!
He should be fine but check him daily over next 2-3 days, part the fur around his abdomen to check for bruising, get him seen by a vet if he goes at all off colour. My main thought after fractures (which doesn't seem likely in his case) would be abdominal hernia damage. These don't present straight away, hence my point of checking his abdomen for bruising. This is not a common injury though, so don't panic, only other thing is to check he is weeing ok so that we know his bladder is ok.
The good thing is that cat's are generally very good at falling and not really injuring themselves!

Google is not being very useful telling me what's actually broken.
I'll have to sort it, but not now.
Another tree related one....
We rehomed an unwanted Maine Coon last year, he decided to explore the huge leylandi next door and his pitiful miaows let us know he'd got himself well and truly stuck.
Not having a ladder I went for a drive round the estate to find the local windowcleaner and saw 2 blokes fitting windows (SafeStyle UK) with a ladder strapped to their van. They came round, put ladder against tree, couldn't get anywhere near him. Offered £20 beer money for their efforts which they refused to accept, my faith in human nature was slightly restored.
Rang RSPCA, who sent man in van who was worse than useless, basically confirmed he was up the tree, went back to his van and ate his sandwiches/flask of tea, cheers mate.
RSPCA advised ringing the fire brigade, did so, to be told to stop wasting their time.
Ended up ringing a tree surgeon who could only reach him with a harness and ropes, even then, it took a good half hour.
That'll be £80 please (quite reasonable I thought, including his 20 mile travel).
Tree sap in a long hairs' coat is horrible, it sets like plastic and most had to be cut out
Thankfully, the tree has now gone.

In the interim, I've pulled the links from the thread, so it shouldn't be an issue anymore.
Excellent story! Reminds me of when I got persuaded by a girl I fancied to take her cat to the vet. Driving a car wearing tennis gear while a cat is doing the wall of death round your car windows is not recommended.Warw1ckHunt - for a moment I thought you were my new neighbour - we're fishing his cat out of one of our big trees at least once a week at the moment. We've left the ladder up against his favourite tree now!
I've had something similar with two of my cats now.
They sometimes walk out of an upstairs window onto the windowsill. But two of them have either slipped, or decided to jump - I don't know which - because both times I've been downstairs.
Ok, this is only from a height of a first-floor window, but it is onto a stone patio, so I would imagine that it's not anywhere near as cushioned as falling onto a lawn.
Both times I've seen the flash of 'black and white' or 'brindle tabby' fur go past the downstairs window at high speed
, with a huge corresponding 'thud' when they land, that I felt through the floor of the lounge
I've immediately run outside, just to find them both then wandering off non-plussed, and carrying on with normal 'cat stuff' seemingly totally oblivious to their potential near-death experience!
I've picked them up and had a good look and feel of them, and they've not seemed to be injured at all, or even looking worried.
Cats have an amazing joint-system on their front legs (their first point of contact when they jump) which acts as an amazing damping and shock-absorbing system. I think we might be panicking for nothing when they jump / fall from a big height.
There are quite a few slow-mo videos on youtube of cats landing - here's one example
