Dogs and bones.
Discussion
Tank (bulldog) doesn't really pay much attention to chewing things...if they fit in his mouth, he will swallow it....food only! Back in the day a friend gave us a load of oxtail bones for him, so we have him one. It was approx 3 or 4 inches square. He smashed into, say, 4 bits, then swallowed them. He was as sick as a.....well, dog for 3 days throwing up the bone fragments. The other day we had a lamb roast and we couldn't throw the bone out, it was too tempting. So now I've been tasked with sitting here to watch him eat it, under strict orders to remove it once I hear the bone cracking.
Should he even have it? He's taken 99% of the meat off and it still chewing. He's in absolute heaven!
Thoughts appreciated....I may have started something like this many Moons ago, but can't remember.
Cheers.

Ok you've learned about cooked bones. Try one of these.

Ours chews on it for hours. Last forever. Well watch it as they are supposed to grind on in it not try and crunch it to bits.

Our bulldog and neo pup destroy normal bones and chews in minutes - these have lasted and they love them. Will definitely be getting others.
Our GSD likes chomping on the rounded antlers. Our lurcher isn't too fussed about them. Not all dogs like antlers, for some reason.
That said, they both love fallow deer antlers - the wide, flat kind. If I give them one each, the GSD goes and tries to take them both - at which point the lurcher gives me a "mu-uum, look what he did!" look.
The huge advantage of antlers is that they last ages, and they don't turn smelly and slimy after being chewed.
Antlers are definitely recommended if your dog can be persuaded to like them.

I too have a bully and a frenchie also. Every boy dog has been interested in raw bones but our bully (a b
h) only likes cooked stuff. In general you shouldn't give lamb bones to a dog IMO as they are very breakable- if you ever see a butcher at work they do a lot of sawing as the bones splinter.
I just hold onto one end (quite tricky!) and when I think it's enough I throw it away. It's like toys though- they will destroy anything they can and eat them then bring em up the next day haha- you've got to watch 'em!

That's just reminded me that I want to order some antlers for Bryn. Is there an minimum age for them though?
not sure but they advertise puppy onesJasandjules said:

That's good, will have a proper look tomorrow, thank you. Trying to avoid the raw hide stuff that we used to give Jimmy.
Your local butcher may be able to give you pig's ears or even skin - take it, bake it.... Then he has lovely crunchy treats....
I will definitely consider that idea over hide chews though

Sadly I live nowhere near a local butcher. I don't trust Bryn to chew properly at the mo either. I give him dried fish skins and he's bad enough with those!! I'm not sure if I can deal with cooking pigs ears! Makes me feel weird thinking of them

Some people say Morrisons and some other Supermarkets can get them pig ears. I've not asked as we are friends with a farmer and get them easily.....

I am guessing cutting pig skin into lines and rolling it up to bake won't be much to your taste either......
If push comes to shove I can always do it for you?!?
