I wonder if the cat lived
Discussion
I was awoken in the small hours of the morning by what sounded like a giant mutant seagull flying up and down the road outside. It grew rapidly louder to the point where it sounded like an ostrich being stabbed frenziedly with a carving knife. The noise was infernal, satanic, piercing - never heard anything like it before.
I threw open the window to see what the heck was going on and saw what appeared to be a Westie charging full pelt across the road with a ginger tom fleeing only a foot or two ahead. The cat had tried to hide under a car, but no luck. It then tried to hide in some bushes, but no luck. All the time the Westie was making a constant bloodcurdling screaming noise. Moments later the pair took off down the road at full speed, cat in full retreat with screaming banshee beserk Westie after it. The cat was clearly too terrified to think about climbing a tree or wall. The noise soon died away and I heard no more.
I was quite rattled and went back to bed wondering what had happened. If the cat had found a safe refuge no doubt the dog would have stayed barking at it. Did the cat manage to get back to its catflap? Or did the Westie simply kill it and wander off? Who knows, but it was horrible to hear. I think the frightening thing was how crazily aggressive a small dog could be; never seen that before. And then I remembered how a pack of Westies had killed their owner's cat. I know cats have little tigers in them but it's nothing compared to a dog when it goes wild.

"Nothing compares to a dog gone wild"
Very true. And unfortunately lost on the vast majority of dog owners - how many times I've had to grab our little Shih Tzu after a 'usually so friendly' bigger dogs tried to eat him.
Mind, I can't see a Westie out pacing a cat over a distance - or at least, that's what I'm telling myself after reading that story!
