I have offered to look after a friends dog whilst they go on holiday so its only for week give or take a day or two.

The dog is a staffie called Rocky who was a rescue (my friend fostered him then took him on)

I have always been around dogs as a kid and in my twenties so do have experience of them. Part of the plan is to see how I get on with the responsibilities of being a dog owner without the long term commitment. During his time with me Rocky will be able to come to work as well so there wont ever really be a time when he is on his own.

Usually on a Sunday I go out with a few mates for early morning blat in the Westfield

Now I'm aware of doggles (cool name) and he also has a car harness. My main concern is the fact that the car is quite noisy and I don't want to damage his hearing and how the hell do I get him to stay in the car as I think the harness he has is for a conventional seatbelt - not a four point race harness that I have fitted.

If you all think its a bad idea then that's fine with me I will just take him to the beach in the normal car (which he loves going in)

Depends entirely on the Dog. My two old retrievers could fit in quite happily in various Westfields, Robin Hoods, Locosts, Locuats and so on over the years never ever had a problem with these dogs in any car at any time. But they were rock sold reliable trained steady Retrievers. They simply never ever did anything wrong ever. If they barked ever it was time to react quick because something serious was adrift. Up to you I would be cautious but it could be fine.

I don't think he's going to like it. Plus the hearing damage is a real possibility.

I once saw a silly bint with a dog at Spa and it was clear the animal was having trouble with the noise.

M C has kind of confirmed my doubts, seeing as it my car is bike engined its quite a lot louder than a car engined car.

I have no problem not going out in the Westie,I would rather spend time with the dog anyway.

Thanks for the advice

As well as noise I would be concerned about something (even a fly) hitting the dog and causing damage.

Best to stick to a boring car with a normal seatbelt IMHO.
