Dog mouth ulcer, how to treat?
Discussion
Hi all,
Last night my parent's 6 year old Tibetan Terrier (debatable!) didn't eat all her food which is unheard of. She picked out the soft bits of chicken but left the biscuit.
My Mum wondered if she had a problem with her mouth or teeth & has noticed what she thinks is a small ulcer.
Does anyone know how this can be treated please? Luckily she's a very docile Dog so won't have our hand off if there's some cream/gel etc that can be applied directly to the affected area.
Thanks, Ben

You could try an animal mouth wash. Hexarinse is a good one, your mum's vets will probably stock it.
Tbh though if it's enough to put her off eating she should have a vet check. Mouth ulcers are rarely spontaneous like people, there is usually an underlying cause. The very least she may need some pain relief.

Thanks for the reply bex.
Mum would normally have her straight to the vet but they are away on Holiday 'til Monday so they are a bit stuck.
The plan is to see if they can find a decent pet shop to see if they have anything to help. We don't think she's in any real pain as she's her usual mad self but I suppose you can never be sure.
I will pass on the advice to Mum about taking her to the vets anyway when they're back as we hadn't really thought about there possibly being underlying issues.
Thanks again, much appreciated.
