Small bald patch on dog ears

He's got these in the same spot on both sides, where the top bit of the ear flops about a bit. Hair is sparse, skin is a little dry and scaly. I'm guessing it's the mechanical effect of the ear hingeing at that point?

Is he scratching his ears? Do the ears smell or feel warm?

No, not at all bothered and no smell.
