Folks,

I'm tempted with a rescue dachshund. He's a charming little fella, I've no idea why but we fancy giving him a home.

He will be sharing the house with a well trained very large German Shepherd that isn't particularly an Alpha dog, but then again doesn't need to be.....yet....

I've read that Dachshunds can be atilla the hun esque. The last thing I want is the GSD having his nose out of joint.

Any combined PH knowledge?

We have a large 3ish year old male gsd and a old grumpy female Yorkshire terrier cross that live together fine, the gsd does annoy the little one a bit trying to get her to play with him but she just turns and snaps at him, wandering off with a billy goat looking tuft of his long coat hanging from her mouth! Rest of the time they generally just ignore each other. He does sometimes get a bit 'big brother' if another dog hassles her or she's in season. Go for it, little and large can get along just fine!

Go for it.

Yes, they can be arsey - can't we all? wink

Parakitamol is the PHr I recognise for knowing most about the breed, but my Great Aunt bred them for a while.

There was a guy walking his Akita & Chihuahua in the park the other day, he ended up picking the Chi up & carrying him as he just sat down &'refused to walk any further smile

These two seem to be fine. I don't think you will have a problem.

We had a Basset Hound with a very mini Dachshund without any problems.

Forgot to finish this, they looked absolutely adorable together; not humorous in the size difference.

We bought our Neapoiltan Mastiff from a breeder who had several Mastiffs (English and Neapolitan) and a Chihuahua.

The Chihuahua ruled the roost in the house to hilarious effect.
