Ideas for Cat Rescue
Discussion
I volunteer at a cat rescue, there are only really 4 of us and some fosterers, as you can imagine it's never ending picking up cats and kittens, taking them to the vets for this that and the other, neutering, flea'ing, worming as well as never ending feeding, litter etc
I have been trying hard to fundraise as the rescue is at crisis point with so many kittens this year, but quite honestly I just cant seem to get much attention for my efforts! We have over 2000 followers on our face book page and I have been trying to run some online quizzes and raffles etc but I seem to be spending more on the prizes than the interest I am getting! My recent effort made just £40, and the prize cost £30! and postage on top! - very disheartening
so PH cat/animal lovers, give me some ideas please?? what would get people interested?
realistic ways I could raise some funds for the cats?? perhaps things you have seen done or taken part in yourself?

Car boot is not a bad idea, only problem is im not one for holding on to stuff and don't really have much to sell! so that's a bit of a no go for me! unless I get people to make me cat related stuff to sell etc, or like above produce etc, I've never done a car boot and I think ive only ever been to one!! am I allowed to sell anything? would I be able to do a raffle? or are there car boot rules?! lol
Firstly do you know of a pub/ supermarket car park or field you could hold one? You then do some posters. Most car booters like an early start to get set up with tables and goods but for the public maybe 9.am onwards. You could either collect money at an entry point or go and collect from cars a fee of maybe £5 or £6 per car. One near me charges £1 parking for people attending as it is in a large field.
You yourself would have no need to sell so no need to collect anything and nothing to lay out.
I don 't know where you are but these are held regularly round here.
Alternatively a table top sale in a village hall or school hall charging £6 per table, you could do a raffle within this and if enough room tea and cake / biscuits for a nominal charge.

Mum collects for a local animal charity. If she goes and chugs outside tesco for an hour on her own she will get about 5p. If she goes and chugs outside tesco with the dog for an hour she will fill the tin. Everyone will stop and pat the dog and give a quid, willingly, for the privilege. Not quite sure how you would do that with cats, but fluffy friendly animals are the way forward.
Thinking longer term: Old people in homes are often lonely and animal lovers. Start a cuddle round - take your fluffy kittens round for a couple of hours a week, every week to the day room of your local white top corral. Collect bequests when they shuffle on.

Get a friendly vets tp support you. We raise money throughout the year for 2-3 local animal charities (and one human!) calendars/ raffle tickets etc today we're doing a fun dog show and monies we raise will be donated (my boss uses her own time and money to organise it, we get a little help from drug companies etc but not much)
You already established in your previous 'begging' thread that you are not a properly registered charity. I'm always sceptical about the motives of people who want skirt around the rules or 'go it alone' on things like this and I think many people share that position. If you motives are well founded then join up with a properly register charity like the Cats Protection or RSPCA.

Stay as you are. Smaller independent charities are much more 'front line' than major ones and will go that extra mile.
Bigger charities tend to take over and ruin the whole principle of the smaller funded ones.
I could tell many stories over this but I expect I will get shot down over them.

We have 3 vets that we use and get discount at, likewise they use us when they get cats needing homes! bexVN said:

You know how in fairs they have tombola type things where you pay £5 to throw rings at things, or balls into jamjars to win a stuffed toy?
Do that, but they win a kitten!
I bet people will be blackmailed by their kids to have loads of goes at winning a cute fluffy kitten, making you money, and of course only give the kittens to the families that check out - they win a home visit to check them out, and get a free kitten if the kittens new home is good.

Begging thread?... Excuse me? Edited by Martin4x4 on Sunday 7th September 09:24
No we are not registered but that doesn't mean our motives need to be doubted?!
Unlike the people at CPL and RSPCA we dont get paid for doing this job and I dare say work longer hours! (yes i know they have volunteers too but the full time staff are paid staff)
We financially put alot in ourselves also, so I don't really like how you can judge our motives! We put in hours of caring and clearing up other peoples mess for the love of the animals!

lol! i like it! I did think about a "kitten cuddle" where they can buy a voucher which gives them a half hour kitten cuddle session! I personally have never had so many friends popping in, to see the kittens not me! We have a small local cat charity called Kitten Karers near us . They don't really ask for cash but have placed boxes (well yellow wheelie bins) in our local Tesco stores with a bit of info about what they do and ask shoppers to donate cat food to them by putting it in the box. They seem to do quite well as there's usually plenty of cat food in there when I drop my box of friskees in.
I think people are more willing to make a donation that isn't cash but clearly helps the animals directly
I know it's not a cash donation but it makes their charities fund go a bit further.
Best of luck with a good cause.
