Bird and insect ID please

Baby (?) bird in the garden this afternoon, looked a little puzzled, about the size of a sparrow.
Insect, crawling around the bark chip bags in Homebase, body about 30mm in length plus 20mm for antenna. Quite scary looking.

Not sure on the insect - looks like some form of wasp

Bird looks like a very small Thrush

Think the wasp is a wood wasp (aka horntail, completely harmless) and the bird is a baby Blackbird.

Defo horntail, evil looking things up to 40mm long, harmless to adults, only feed on small children

Bird does look very similar to a blackbird I raised a few years back, but at that stage of plumage it was a bit darker.

Yep, that's a wood wasp. Had one in our kitchen once .. fearsome looking thing and huge !

That wood wasp certainly was a fearsome crittur.

Thought it must some foreign thing. Gave my laddie a fright.
Hope the bird was OK it was just sat in the middle of the garden. Hope it's parents found it before the neighbours cats.
