Friends dog dies

My friend 2 weeks ago took his 5 Yr old dog in for vaccination, the day after he became ill and sadly yesterday passed away, this is not a 1 off thing with many dogs becoming ill and some sadly dying afterwards, be careful what you put in your animal

Interesting... Strangely enough my black Labrador was very ill after his jabs a few weeks ago.

Took him back to the vets and they diagnosed a brain tumour!!

Was devastated.

He's absolutely fine now.

I've changed vets.

Never had a dog boostered in 30yrs.

My dogs got an initial injection at home by me, and no more. Thats a few dogs over 30yr and never had an issue.

The problem is that most kennels want your dog to have up to date set of jabs and won't take the dog otherwise. Either I get the dog vaccinated or I have to decide if I want to go abroad on holiday or not.

It’s very easy (& safe!)to check if your dog carries immunity to diseases by doing a titre test via vaccicheck at most vets.

Very worrying for people like me who have dogs who can't be vaccinated for medical reasons (immune condition).

This thread should be reported to the mods for excessive stupidity. It’s you lot who are responsible for the death of dogs by preventable disease because of vaccination. Look up ‘herd immunity’. Luckily for you non-vaccinators you are relying on it. The more people who don’t vaccinate the less herd immunity we will see and the more disease we will begin to see again.

Just look at the MMR situation. Lots of measles and mumps coming back.

Vaccination, in general, is not risk-free.

Nor is non-vaccination.

Generally the risks of the latter outweigh the former. I vaccinate my animals.

I was told they self boost if they are out and about and exposed to risk. Must say I've never had my dogs re-boosted and all's been fine.

I rely on herd immunity for one of my dogs, but not out of choice. All the others are and have always been vaccinated.

Seconded about the stupidity shown in this thread. A puppy died after vaccination in our vets practice, the owners went ape st and started all sorts of threats. PM revealed the puppy had died after eating something that it shouldn't and in reality with application of the most basic of care should have been preventable. Still they're now st stirring anti-vaxxers. No patience for them.

I didn't read the OP as an anti-vax post.

The FB post was suggesting that many boosters are given without checking whether or not they are necessary. That is certainly my experience, as titre tests are only performed at the vet's we use, if you request them.
