Dogs catching discs

I'm very annoyed with the The Guardian for publishing this feature.

There is nothing more likely to cause an injury to a dog than throwing a flying disc for it. The twisting motion and fall to the ground can cause lot's of injuries to a dogs legs and back. Especially back injuries that may not be apparent immediately. Collies are the worst for this as they have an inbuilt 'do or die' attitude and will carry on regardless of any pain they are in. When I throw a toy for my dog, it is always either into water, where he has to swim for it, or into undergrowth, where he has to search for it. Throwing it into the air with the intention of the dog jumping, twisting and falling to the ground is just stupid in my opinion. Dog frisbies should be banned!

Disagree with banning frisbees, it is my dog's favourite toy. I am careful not to get him airborne, but if you follow that thought process, then soon motorbikes and sportscars will be banned because they are dangerous.

Just because something COULD be bad, doesn't mean we need yet more bans.

I want minimal government and law constraints in my life. The solution is not always legislation.

What a crazy thing to say, my dog Flash is never happier than when he launches into the air to catch his ball.

If one day that hurts him, would I feel guilty for the thousands of hours of joy and exercise? Not one bit.

Knowing when they are pushing themselves in the heat too much is far more important.

I draw the line at motorbikes for my dog. Its not him, it's everyone else on the road.

My old Norwegian Elkhound was far too grand and intelligent to demean himself by running after balls or frisbees, less still jumping for anything.

Perhaps there's a form of natural selection going on here?

Mine plays with a frisbee most days. He's jumped and caught it 1000's of times. Maybe a big ball of cotton wool and never going outside would be safer?

What a ridiculous thing to suggest.

Probably should feed him intravenously too incase he gets bloat or chokes on it?

I met a rambler while dog out with our doggo He felt sticks were too dangerous for dogs, Apparantly thousands manage to impale themselves and die each Yr.

Probably need a stick ban too.
