I too had never heard one until last Wednesday. I was really chuffed. You certainly can't mistake it for anything else.

No cuckoo yet, but we've just seen our first two swallows of the year.

Swallows last week and first cuckoo yesterday, Long Eaton, Notts. House martins returned last week which was earlier then usual.

Heard/saw my first Skylark of the season yesterday - North Pennines, enchanting sound.

No Curlews heard/spotted yet.

Up here in Wensleydale, yesterday, when out for my run I saw/heard my first skylark too. Curlews are plenty round these parts, despite the national picture. Went for a walk down to the river on Saturday and saw sand martins, but not sure when they arrived. Still haven't heard a cuckoo though.

No cuckoo's here in Gloucestershire yet, Skylark 2 weeks ago, bats have been out an busy for 3 weeks or so.

1st cuckoo 2021, a little later this yr but isn't everything.

Heard my 1st cuckoo this year on Saturday (1st May) while walking near Shipton-under-Wychwood in Oxfordshire. Despite living in the Bucks countryside, I doubt I’ll hear another one this year if past years are anything to go by.
