Any idea what these are?

I was sorting out some of out logs that had not been stacked and came across this. It was like something out of Aliens. I thought that I could pull it off but the almost silk like weave was so thick and so well adhered to the log I think I will have to chop it off. Trying to pull it off saw some yellow larvae/ catapillers.

Any ideas?
