Hi all
This is my now 5 month old puppy, I know what breed she is, or atleast I'm 100% certain on her maternal parentage as I never got to meet the dad who was a stud dog.

Reason for my post is the number of people who say "oh, she's a lovely (breed name) my x has one of those" but they are saying the incorrect breed, perhaps her paternal parentage was this breed.

Anyway, reason for the post is to ask the PH dog community, what breed do you see here ?

A spaniel. If in doubt a DNA test.

As we're playing guess the dog, I'll up the ante, what do you think this one is?

Springer.

What do people think she is then?

I’d need to see a picture of her body to make a better judgment, but looking at her head I’d go with Springer spaniel too.

I'm another that thinks she is a Springer Spaniel. What breed have you been told she is?

I would say Spaniel (Springer) and there does seem to be a hint of beagle in the face.

Thanks all
Your responses are aligned with what people have been saying.
She is atleast 50% cocker, her mum (see pic) was a cocker so I'm starting to think that perhaps her dad was a Springer

She is the puppy top right climbing on her sibling

I dunno, but with that front right leg, I bet he's stable in a stiff breeze.

sprocker is not a breed! is a mongrel!

I would say springer although cockers can look very much like small springers.

Either way, I think it’s a springer cocker cross.

Presumably the OPs paperwork can confirm this?

I’m reading about (and know) people who bought dogs during lockdown thinking they were x breed but are now having similar conversations as their Labrador turns out to look more like a lurcher or whatever.

It’s no drama if you get a dog you like but if you paid for something and got something else then maybe not so much.

Not saying this was what happened in your case OP but you seem to have a dog that you’re not sure what it actually is?

I did purchase the dog as a cocker, however I was clear that she was bred from someone's pet and raised in a family home rather than purchasing from a breeder.

My other cocker is a 5 generation pedigree from a well respected breeder and I did know that the new one did not have the same "qualifications", as you know puppy prices have gone crazy since covid and since she was purchased as a pet I couldn't justify the additional cost of going to a breeder and instead sought out a dog raised in a good family home who's mum had all the right traits. Similar to the saying when buying a car privately, buy the seller first and the seller was lovely.

She is a great pup and cockers and springers share many trait's, as said above in this instance it was more about finding a good family pet than it being a show dog.

She is atleast 50% cocker and I suspect the other 50% is Springer Which is fine with me.

I might do a dog DNA test just so I can learn a little more.

Thanks everyone for your input, my dog thread on here has got way more responses than any of my car threads lol

Even pedigree springers vary massively. My two have a 10kg difference (ok one is male and one female). There definitely seems to be a trend round here to breed them smaller / shorter legged - maybe to get under cover more easily on shoots.

25years ago cockers were massive compared to today.

We will breed these two so immaculate pedigree was a requirement, for a pet then temperament is probably far more important than ‘having a certificate’!

Owner of a working cocker here.

I would have guessed springer from the photo.

I had never heard of a sprocker before I got my boy, but have met several since. Most have looked like big cockers.

If he is a pet and has a good temperament, then that’s all you need.

Lovely looking dog

They are lovely.

My late two springer Tessa and springer cocker cross Holly.
