8 month old cat legged it

The first time we put flea treatment on our youngest cat, about a week after we had rescued her, she did a runner out of the back door, across the garden, over the fence, and came back about 4 hours later as if nothing had happened.
We thought then we might have lost her.
She still has a habit of disappearing for hours in the summer, she finds somewhere to sleep in the shade and comes home when she is hungry.
Been with us for 10 plus years now so she must be content with us.

One of mine goes out for over 23 hours a day during the summer, and I knew someone whose cat went out for months ata time. That would worry me the first couple of times!
For the last 5 kittens, I built a catio with a cat flap to the house in order for them to get used to how a cat flap works. After a couple of months, they were allowed out properly.
Previously, it was tempting them with treats each side.

I remember how the sound of a tin being opened would cause my cat to materialise regardless of what was in it or who it was for!Chubbyross said:
