So we have chickens and we’re after something to put on top of the soil as in the winter etc it’s getting so muddy for them, not to mention slippy for us. Any suggestions on what we can put down on the outside area?
Bark? Some kind of sand?

Whatever you put down they will scratch through it, they need more ground ideally on a rotation basis or you'll end up just growing weeds.

Which on enlarging the photo is what is happening now.

Wood or bark chippings are perfect, whenever anyone in our village is having tree work done I get them to give me the chippings.

And legally they should be inside/under bird proof netting due to the H5N1 bird flu outbreak.

Definitely wood bark or chippings.

Chicken Dinner may be able to help with this one too.
