Soo since our last cat died 1 neighbouring cat and another from somewhere seem to take it in turns stting in our grass (would minc less if it was in the boarder) it's always the same spot where our cat speng lots of her time watching something that lived in a bush

Anyway vet suggested a water pistol and said you don't even need to hit it just get it close. We have tried shouting and chasing but they still come just when we can't be seen.

Has anyone had luck with discouragement like this or any other ideas?

Can't be anything that would impact our new cat though as she is already terrified of the outdoors

Buy some pepper stuff from your local gardning centre, good for most domestic animals, and non so much.

You'd be surprised at the volume of hedgehog poo.

How something so massive can come out of something so small remains a wonder.

I've seen them do it so I know it's them.

The pepper stuff would also discouraged our cat from being in the garden I'd have thought. Next doors can't go in theirs as it's fake grass and slate

Not necessarily true. I've caught at least one cat stting on the slates we have down in the front garden. Found sprinkling a bit of cayenne pepper around the area was enough to put them off.

I can also confirm this is bks. We have at least 2 cats locally who don't bury their st.
To be fair, the one that does causes the most problem as it buries it under a thin layer of gravel in front of our front door. It takes a keen eye to spot the messed up gravel before you step in it..... grumpy

We have many cats in our area and I've seen plenty st in the grass as well as every single time I clear any bed or bit of ground, or on the gravel, or anywhere else they fancy.

Even the ones who bury it don't usually do a very thorough job.

So I believe you that it's cats.

Water pistol is fine but in my experience just means they become more wary and sneaky and tend to visit more at night or when they're sure you're not about!

As Jim Royle would say, 'Cat's bury their st, my arse' or three that come here didn't get taught by mother properly.

To be honest, I know it's bks, I was being sarcastic.

Dont blame the cats....it's the owners that are selfish fkers.

Yeah, I re-read your email and thought that might have been the case beer

Agreed about the owners, I suspect a lot of cats st outdoors because their litter tray only gets emptied once a week.

If you you someone with rabbits ask the to leave the toilet an extra day or two and then spread the contents around he garden. We used to put it in my brothers and watch the cats walk their usual routes then stop and turn around when they neared a pile. Sorted my garden issue out to when i bought the house.

If a cat is allowed out, it won't use a litter tray, so having one is a waste of time. So it's either keep a cat indoors all of the time (which is cruel in my opinion) or accept that it will relieve itself outdoors. I don't see how you can call the owners selfish - it's not as if they can train their cat to only use their own garden. Cats don't understand the concept of fences and boundaries - by definition they roam and create a territory that is far larger than most people's gardens.
