Does anyone have a cat with one eye?

It looks like one of our cats had an argument with a car yesterday, damaging the left eye. She's now at a specialist vet, who can deal with the damage to the eye, orbit and surrounding area.

Whilst it's still settling down, eye pressure has dropped overnight. It's not clear whether the lens/cornea can be salvaged, and if ihey can, be of any use.

We want to do the best for her, and do not put her through unnecessary pain/operations. They have already been advised they could try and it might fail a few weeks after leading to eye removal, as the repair would be complex.

Just wondering whether anyone owns a cat with just one eye, if so, how do they cope?

My daughter has 2 with 1 eye missing and they get on fine, they just get startled sometimes if you approach on the blindside.

She'll be fine with one eye. Even completely blind cats can live a relatively normal life.

My dad had a tabby cat with one eye, after an unfortunate disagreement with a horse hoof when quite young...

Tigger (original name huh?) lived for many years afterwards quite happy, and got quite overweight partly due to an amazing ability to catch rodents despite the sight handicap.

Have a partially blind cat, she rules the house and bullies our German Shepherd with regularity. No concerns here, they cope incredibly well - although mine was born this way.

This is a photo of Esmerelda who we fostered about two years ago.

She had an infection in the eye and the vet felt it was best removed.

As far as I know she is still doing fine.

Many thanks for all the replies, that helps alot.

She appears to be purring & tarting in the vets with the staff, so hopefully if worst case, she comes back with one eye, she'll be back to have normal self pretty soon.

Our other cat Winston has been out on extended patrols looking for her, so it will be good for him too.

We picked Vesper up this morning. All things considered, she is very spritely. The cone of shame, ihasn't stopped her climbing.

A bag full of drugs, back for a checkup in 2 weeks unless there's any issues in the meantime.

Our cat lived coped for 10 years with one eye. Didn’t fight as much after losing it but held his ground against our 2 boxers. Still brought us rodents and the occasional koi carp from our neighbours pond.

Mother is a snow bengal, half tabby.

Winston is half snow, half brown.

Another collar last October from fighting another cat.

We had a Siamese who had one eye. It never bothered her in the slightest. She was obviously aware of her restricted vision and had a few quirks as a result.

My sister has one car with one eye and one cat with no eye, the totally blind cat can still jump on railings and walk along, it can catch animals and it plays like any other cat. She found her two in a rubbish bin and they had some sort of infection….they still enjoy life to the full.

We have a Persian with 1 eye and no teeth.

She is fine running about but doesn’t venture out much anymore. She is 16 though so could definitely play a part.

She is quite happy run I g around and jumping up onto sofas and chairs etc. Bats the 2 Rottweilers away when they sniff or lick her too hard and generally seems absolutely fine doing her normal everyday stuff.
