I am looking for recommendations for a dog friendly country park or similar, somewhere between Warwick/Stratford on Avon/South of Birmingham/Welsh Borders please. It's not my local area.

We have a 4 year old Lab/collie cross, who we adopted two years ago from his first owners and their primary school age children.
We have agreed to meet up with them in a couple of weeks time so that they can see how he is doing and have some fun with him.
I very much don't want the meeting to be in his current local environment, so that he doesn't spend months afterwards looking for them everywhere he goes. Nor do I want it to be in their local environment. I just don't think that's a good idea, as his old doggie friends will be there..

So we have agreed to meet up half way, and as we live near Newark on Trent and they are in Cheltenham, the area I have suggested would seem logical to me.

What I need is a nice country park/ woods etc where dogs are allowed off lead and children are too. A children's play area would be nice but not essential (kids are 10 and 8), as they could have fun before we arrive and not be quite as hyper as they would be fresh out of the car.

All suggestions, including for other things the parents could do with them before/after, will be most welcome.

National Trust Attingham Park by Shrewsbury might fit. Only drawback is that there re only certain areas which are off lead, but would have ‘facilities’ etc

Try https://www.comptonverney.org.uk/

Its very nice with good walks, good food and usually some varied art exhibitions on

It's not free though but if you plan to visit more than once then the membership is worth it (and you can upgrade upon exit the 1st time if you think it worthwhile)

This has brought back many great memories of walks at Attingham

If Shrewsbury is Ok for you, just to the south is Lyth Hill. A fabulous wlak with 360 degree views of Shropshire. We laid the ashes of these two there

Good luck
