So my daughter has a habit of collecting animals, 1 dog, 2 sheep and a horse. Many of which I end up walking, feeding, sheering etc whilst she is at work.

About a month ago, I get a call late at work from her travelling back from the yard on the back lanes of Somerset. And any late night phone call from anyone’s children always makes the heart miss a beat! She was blocked behind a delivery van, who had stopped for a dog in the road eating road kill rabbit. Grabbing a lead rope she grabbed him and stuck him in the pickup and home he came.

Filthy, skin and bones and no name tag or registered chip, she stuck a picture on FB local groups, which raised no leads or owners. The dog warden was informed but again no real help with the only option of off to the lost dog’s home, which seemed a bit unkind as we had 2 dogs already.

So he stayed. A trip to the vet the next day and discussion suggested probably 9-12 months as adult teeth but v young and malnourished. And probably of traveller surplus to requirement abandonment background, which the dog warden concurred with.

He pretty much slept for 3 days apart from food and water in a covered crate. Since then, several baths, food, treats, worming, flea-ing, he is a different dog.

Unlike cars, n+1 is one too many so he needs to go. Which is a shame as he is now a lovely fun little puppy although shoes, socks, rugs and anything else floor level is getting relocated to his bed or garden. Fortunately it looks like a retired couple opposite are going to re home him, as she has been wanting a dog for a few years so perhaps fate? And will be nice to see him grow.

From a near death abandoned experience to the life of Reilly. Got named Steven for no real reason but the vet didn’t want to put down Stray Dog once they had met him.

Hope Steveooooo’s story makes you smile on a Saturday morning. R

Whilst it's dreadful that b4stards like the ones who abandoned the poor mite exist, it is wonderful that people like your daughter do, to correct others wrongs. Much qudos!
