Hello everyone.

I'm looking for somewhere nice to spend a few days with the missus in June. She's saving to travel so has very little cash and I thought it would be nice to take her away for a few days as her Birthday is around then too.

Current thoughts are to head to Devon or Cornwall, or possibly to cross the channel with the car or without and find somewhere in the North of France.

I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment as well so don't want to spend a huge amount, I've found a few places in St Ives and the surrounding areas that look alright, but I've been ther before and it might be nice to try somewhere new.

Any recommendations? Anything goes really, but I'd prefer somewhere near the sea, with a few nice places to eat and some things to keep us entertained in the day.
Cheers

Take the car on the tunnel, and drive up to Bruges. Plenty of B&Bs & hotels at various rates to choose from.

Surely just cheaper to train all the way to Bruges than take the car? Hardly like it's a town you need a car in!

Krakow or Budapest are cheaper once you are there if you can get some cheapo flights.

Just more convenient rather than train to Brussels, then back to Bruges. It's only an hour the other end.

How cheap do you want to look? Derby has shops and that's what women like most, and you can get a double ensuite in a Contractors B&B for £30 a night at the weekend as nobody wants to stay other than monday to friday, and there's lots of culture. Plus you can drive into dove dale and have a picnic.

New Forest?

Or heading over the channel, Channel Isles (Alderney is my pick of them), or St Malo?

You can change train at Lille for Bruges.

I discovered this on the way home when already in Brussels. frown

If you're looking for some quiet time together in spectacular scenery, try the Hope Valley in the Peak District.
