I'll set the ball rolling before / in case you don't get more comprehensive replies, as we only stopped there last year (early October) to change buses but had the chance for a quick mosey around!
It was beautiful and seemed very 'sleepy'/ quiet, and is nicely situated between Sorrento and Amalfi (the coastal bus trip in both directions was a pleasant experience in itself)... It also seemed a little more 'real' than Sorrento which is where we were staying, which felt a little too 'touristy' in terms of cuisine/ tacky souvenirs/ old English and American people wearing ridiculous matching outfits!

Beautiful area, which we intend to sail back to at some point so we can spend more time there.
The whole coast around here is spectacular.
You likely won't stay here for a whole week, but you can easily do day trips to Ravello, Sorrento, Capri, Pompeii, Amalfi (doesn't sound too bad, does it!) etc.
There early September last year. It is a stunning place, but quite small, hanging off the edge of cliffs. Driving there (as previoussly stated) is interesting, especially if you meet a coach going the other way on the windy Amalfi coast road. Do stay the heck out of Naples as it is a complete s
e. A day or two on the isle of Capri is always nice. Unfortunately, Sorrento and Positano are on the Bay of Naples, which means that a lot of the time (in summer especially) a thick smog settles from the port of Naples, all the way down the Amalfi. Some days we could'nt even see Capri because of the smog! Nothing much to do in Positano really. 3 days was enough for us and 2 of those were spent on Capri. If you want to lay on the beach the local beach hire guys will happily seperate you from lots of euros! I think it was about 18 EUR for a sun lounger for 4 hours. More if you want an umbrella too.

The Mediterraneo hotel is a little guest house, half a dozen rooms B&B, but very friendly, great coffee in the morning, couldn't fault it (it's cheap). Anacapri is also a lot more 'locals', so much more real than Capri centre, it has better restaurants, etc.
Having said that, to sit in the central square of Capri with a glass of (expensive) wine and people watch of an evening is a thing of beauty.

+1 on this and the need for a blind fold! Just be aware that, in my experience, it was incredibly hot - 40 centigrade plus, and there are a lot of hills/stairs!Beautiful area, which we intend to sail back to at some point so we can spend more time there.

As Bill Bryson puts it, Capri must be the worst place in the world to be a washing machine delivery man.

Three years ago the other half and I took a 10 day holiday based in Ravello. The hotel we picked was because they could transfer us from Naples Airport at reasonable cost and they had a shuttle bus from Ravello down to Amalfi which we used every day. Most days we got to Amalfi, headed to the ticket office for the many ferry destinations and then decided where we wanted to go for the day. This was just great because we went to many differnt places by boat and were never disappointed. On several days we even took the little ferry to nearby Minori, settled on the beach, had lunch nearby and then at the end of the day went back to Ravello...great!
We went to Positano by boat on one ocasion but we decided it was too commercial there: lots of tat and T shirt shops. We did have a good liunch by the small harbour though.
We also took an afternoon organised Amalfi coach drive, and apart from the stunning scenery the drivers and their behaviour was great to watch!
So, Ravello etc. was so good we're thinking of a repeat for next year.
September 2010 we went to Sorrento. What a disappointment. Totally spoiled by having 2-3 cruise ships there every day with hoards of tourists, too many for the town to cope with in our view. This also made eating out maybe 20% more expensive than the UK, certainly way over typical prices in Italy in our experience. It is a nice, small, town but just ruined. Had a great hotel with a private patio overlooking the Bay of Naples, probably the best bit of the trip. We went by boat to Ischia one day which was a good day out.
All in all, the Amalfi area is a delight and well worth a visit to as many parts of it as possible.
