Tally Ho! off to Melbourne via Mauritius!
Discussion
Afternoon chaps, off in a couple of hours. I am on a mission to bring PH to many far flung places so will be posting a couple of shots on the way, if you likey? The PH T shirt will be making a few appearances (yes, 'that' T-shirt for those that know) Mods, pretty please, leave this in the lounge, as it will cover a few topics and some lovely Air Hostesses!
I'll let you into a secret, and that is that Melbourne is currently very cold and wet. For Oz its cold and wet - so about 7-14 degrees before wind chill, and the rain is worse than at home. Its rained for about 5 days now. Bring a hoody and an umbrella.
Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear!

Thanks chaps....so here are a couple more for you, unfortunately the totty wasn't quite photogenic and the t shirt got a few looks so was discarded. it did make an appearance today so I will upload some Melbourne pics tomorrow...so here goes..
Well, to be frank I'm not the greatest flyer but this time, perhaps because of the reason for going to Melbourne, I was a lot calmer. I am not a wealthy chap by any means but was lucky enough to have a comfortable trip in business class-I don't know about short haul but if you can, for long haul....do it! I don't know how the chickens behind me fared but a lovely experience from check in and straight through to the lounge....

All very nice! Obviously, the first thing I did was to have a beer and a little relax before going to the gate at 10 minutes before take off. Paille-en-queue was my smoker for the day....

A cheeky little A340E. Let me tell you....you know about the saying 'the bigger the better' well for aircraft, it is. Very smooth take off and sitting up front, strangely quite. So,once airbourne, I spent a good few minutes surveying the workings of the seat, as England passed me by....

Not quite easy jet (other than the colour scheme) but strangely calming when the lights go down. Now I have had various TVR,BMW idrive,Merc COMMAND to contend with, so a piece of cake. What they don't tell you about flat seats is what happens in turbulence....some how it found us at 42,000 feet over the Indian Ocean...imagine dropping a small child and then catching them...arms and legs everywhere! However, a thoroghly relaxing experience.
And so to dinner....now I appreciate that it is really just a bit of tarted up stuff from Gateway, at £4.00 odd a passanger per meal but most of it actually tasted like it should have. The upside to being Air Mauritius, with the French connection, is the cheeky Margaux that I quaffed through the evening....so to start, as they say..and please note, real cuttlery, real glasses etc....'some duck, for sir?'.....'don't mind if I do!'....

So, tucking into my dinner, its always nice to have a pleasant view and looking out of the window, flying somewher over the Alps...

Not bad for a view....but soon the starter is gone...a little glass of red to digest and then the beef....

Very tasty. And some more lovely views...

Ah well, dinner nearly finished, only the cheesy bits to go.By this time I'm feeling quite relaxed and full but luckily had a last bit of room to fit this in...

So that was dinner...by this time, the sun is gently setting over the horizon and what a lovely place this is, reclining in my seat, the troubles of the world far below, cruising quietly and gently into the long dark night. And so, on to Mauritius.
And interesting point to note for all those that ask, 'can I get a mobile signal in an aircraft' well I can answer this one as a resounding 'YES!' but from the strangest place....on landing in Mauruitis, and having left my phone accidentaly on, I recieved a text greeting from 02 Ethiopia, thanking me for using them! Well I never! Adis Abbaba may be a bit backwards, but they can sure send up a mobile signal!
Next stop? Mauritius......
NB: and just for the aircraft geeks out there, the seat is clearly not of 1G but on the way out.The aircraft is the correct one but a picture from 'tinternet...I boarded form a different angle so couldn't get it.

Air Mauritius only fly the A340-300 - you should try the A340-600, it's 12 metres longer (and longer than an A380).
Oh, and Mogadishu is 'capital' of Somalia - Addis Ababa is the city you're thinking of in Ethiopia.
Great write up though, I enjoyed it
ARRRRGH!!! Well corrected! Edited. Thanks for that. The brain is still recovering, luckily spelling police aren't around too!
