Where in Turkey??? Sept '11
Discussion
Hi,
Me and the OH have decided on Turkey this year. Relatively close, hot, lots of things to do/see and not Euro currency (although I accept the Turks may prefer it)
Only thing is, we are clueless about Turkey and are not sure which resort would suit us best.
We are a couple in our early 20's and dont mind a night out or two in a club/bar but generally want a relaxing holiday with plenty of excursions to do. We arent really the lounge about the pool type (we can laze about all day for a couple of days but cant just stay in the hotel grounds all week)
We were looking initially at Marmaris /Icmeler - is it tacky a'la Blackpool? and Bodrum. However Olu Deniz pictures posted on PH look OK just worried about being a bit too chilled out! We want 5 star ideally but 4 will suit if all other criteria are met. Is it also worth going all inclusive? A bit of research has shown me there are plenty of restaurants wherever we stay. We have been to Egypt and had AI before and never got the s
ts but I suspect we were lucky.
The OH doesnt like stone beaches, anywhere with normal sand would be a bonus, I think she may just have to lump it as I am finding it hard to find a beach without sharp stones in it.
I Egypt we got a bit fed up with the hassle, I imagine Turkey to be somewhat similar. My missus is Indian and my mate who went last year reckons she may not get as much attention as she has darker skin, me being blonde, blue eyes may be on the receiving end shall we say! I just hope hes taking the piss!
Cheers guys

Only been to Turkey the once but really enjoyed it. We went to the Antalya region and found plenty to do and see there. We stayed at the Sheraton Grand Voyager and it was perfectly nice, on a cliff above a beach (didn't visit it but seem to remember sand) little groups of bars there etc for the evenings. Can't remember all the places we visited but there were some Roman stuff, a lovely park type place with a massive waterfall - and a trip up the road to Chimaera. Antalya old town is lovely too.
Great place to spend a week or so.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I can heartily recommend Dalyan.

I love it and have been back many times over the last 20 years. Enough night life, not commercial, lots to see and do (search on here for Turkey threads - there are many..) and a very beautiful part of the world. And only 30 mins transfer from Dalaman!
We'll be there in late August, can't wait..

Not been in years, but having been to both Marmaris and Olu Deniz I'll try to offer an opinion!Marmaris was 'cool' (I was only about 16 at the time and dragged around by parents, but it seemed to have loads going on that I wanted to get amongst!)...
Olu Deniz is gorgeous, but yes, it is very chilled out (my ex confirmed it's still like this, as she went about 3 years ago!)... Obviously, if you want to go on boat trips/ excursions/ risk plummeting to your death in some dodgy paragliding incident this doesn't mean it isn't a good base for a holiday!
In July we are going here..

We normally go to their other one in Olu Deniz, but this will be the first time at this resort. Although we have kids( now 8+10)and it has everything they ever need, if you go out of the school hols time( assuming your not kiddiefied yet?) I'd imagine it will be hard to beat, I know a lot of adults who have gone as couples and loved it at both Lykiaworld places.
It's nice country with nice people, Egypt's not in the same league.

Have a look at Fethiye/Calis beach area, its 20 min drive from Olu Deniz very cosmopolitan and not as tacky as marmaris etc, hotel letonia is fantastic 5 star all inc hotel and well priced.
Very good call - stayed in Fethiye as well (parents went through a Turkey addiction that lasted several years when I was younger!)i have stayed here three times,
its is very nice.
the rooms are little villa's and not tower blocks

Another vote for Dalyan, loads to do (Sandy beach accesible by boat, Lyceum ruins, lake swimming etc) Nightlife is as quiet or as lively as you want, loads of restaurants and bars. We stayed at the Aydos Club Hotel which is fantasic http://www.aydosclub.com/http://www.dalyanonline.net/
