Hi,

I'm off to Fiji and Tonga with my mate in June for a few months and on our way back we have an overnight stay in Seoul.

I'm a photographer and he doesn't mind exploring so what I wondered was, does anyone have any recommendations of somewhere to get up high over the city to take some night time city scape shots without paying loads of cash.

Any other ideas welcome,

Cheers

Luke

I work in Seoul quite frequently. I suspect your best bet would be Seoul Tower.

The Grand Hyatt is close by.

You'd think N-Seoul Tower would be the best for a good night view, but when we visited in December, you could barely see out of the windows. They were pretty filthy smile

I'd definitely recommend going up the tower, but I found you could get better photos from the viewing points outside the tower base or at other viewpoints a little way down the hill.

I'm a photographer, was there end of '09, fun place... although REALLY cold in winter!

N Seoul tower not great as has been mentioned, Tower 63 offers better opportunities in terms of shooting from a building - nice wide angle will capture the river in the foreground and the city in the distance, with the lense pressed right up against the glass to cut out any glare. I did find a spot about 20mins walk North West from Jongno-Gu, a park with a fairly steep path to stroll up which offered great views of the city.... Can I remember what its called though? Sadly, no... maybe Ben can help!

I think its roughly here though, just trying to track where I'd have walked from the apartment:

I recognise the location you're talking about Steve, but can't think of the name. Saying that I've only spent about 10 days in Seoul since I moved here hehe

Cheers guys guess we'll just take a stroll around and see what happens. Is crime low? Dont wanna be wandering through a park at night with all my camera gear etc.

Also is the metro or whatever their transport system is called easy to navigate. We just wanna go for a little bit of an explore really.

Crime? What crime? wink Its as safe a big city as I can imagine, not sure where the trouble areas are if they even exist.

Metro is superb - cheap, fast, efficient. Pretty easy to navigate, its the same principal as just about every other system in the world.

Just fly an airline that doesn't use North Korean military livery and you should be OK wink (How the F do you confuse civil/military???)
