Changing money for Thailand trip
Discussion
No question on this.
Take Sterling and change it when you are there.
Absolutely no point changing to USD and taking that to change there (2 lots or charges) or changing into Bht here.
You will get about 7-8% more for your £ there.
When you arrive, you will pass literally dozens of exchange booths throughout the airport. they are located on the concourse airside and in the baggage hall and meeting area. All have the same rate.
Make sure you have good, clean notes. They will knock back any heavily marked/soiled/damaged notes. Some booths are not keen on £50 notes either.
Just take £20's that are all clean.

We found wherever we were in Thailand the cash points gave us best % on our £. Just make sure that you phone the bank first and let them know!
The rate can be good, but you will pay a flat rate per transaction of a few hundred Bht.There may well be a restriction of the amount that you can withdraw and unless you are happy/able to draw large amounts, you will end up with multiple charges.
Believe me, changing from sterling to Bht is easy and gets you a very good (comparatively) rate.
I pass through BKK with work on a regular basis and see that the exchange booths in the airport are a rip off as their rates are way off, even if you are changing from Sterling to Bhat. Use the high street banks either ATM's or change inside the bank, you will need your passport when doing this, they are the best and most efficient ways of exchanging.
As an average you will get 10% less in S EA at the airport from in the town, best bet in Thailand is ATM, but don't use the temp ones you sometimes in transit van type things. Never seen anyone an exchange rate at a hotel or shop I'd take, regardless of if it $ or pound,so change at the banks.
