Ibiza dress code?
Discussion
For some reason I've signed up to go to Ibiza for the weekend in a couple of weeks, we are going for a mates 40th and there are 18 of us going. I'm not sure where we will be staying all I know is it's the busy bit.
I used to enjoy clubbing in my very early twenties but that was 10 years ago and I prefer drinking real ale in pubs and beer festivals now so I'm well out of touch with the whole dance scene. When I used to go to gatecrasher etc they used to have silly dress codes like no labels or laces does this still apply? I even got refused to gods kitchen once because I wasn't wearing a jumper.
To be honest there's a couple of us that aren't bothered about going to the clubs so we might form a splinter group and find some decent bars, will we get away with wearing shorts to these, or will smart jeans/trousers be expected?

There's no dress code in all the cool places, including Pacha, Space, Amnesia etc. (outside of VIP anyway) - it's the ultimate 'let your hair' down place after all - I'd suggest jeans, cool trainers/ shoes and a t-shirt/ casual shirt would be more than adequate for most nights...
Fancy dress may cause entry problems to the clubs depending on the night - TBH I'd head to San An for that night - it might not have the best rep but it's ok for a cheap, daft, drunk night out - if you can stand the 'kids'!
ETA - Didn't see your bit about shorts - will be ok for most of the bars - maybe not the more pretentious ones, but you're really not going to find yourself excluded for everywhere because of them!... As for trousers, unless you really know how to look 'cool' in them (I'll be the first to say I don't!), I'd stick with jeans or you'll feel seriously overdressed unless you're somewhere very special!

Manumission would have been your best bet for fancy dress, but it's been killed off.
You normally get a fairly thorough search on the way into Space, so bear that in mind for any costumes, however on the basis they'll let you in wearing your swimming gear from the water park next door they ain't too picky.
DC-10 is probably the best place for nonsense these days?
Pacha is pretty relaxed about letting you in, and most likely the best compromise for clubbing if some in the group aren't into it that much.
You can go and hide out on the roof terrace where it's not so noisy.
Sounds like you'll be in San An, and you can go to the off licence and drink what you like on the beach, wearing what you like, but grabbing the tunes for free from the multitude of places along the sunset strip.

I would say theres pretty much no dress code unless like above, you are going VIP.
When we were there 2 years ago, everyone of us were out in shorts and a T shirt most nights as the clubs are pretty damn warm!
As for fancy dress, the places are used to people dressing up so dont see that being a problem.

Pretty much all of the clubs will let you in no matter what you're wearing, Pacha is probably the most picky - so if you're going there I wouldn't wear boarding shorts or similar. Also, as mentioned VIP are very strict with clothes - so dress posh!
West-end clubs like EsParadis and Eden are the least picky :P
Also worth mentioning don't bother taking your camera to the club nights as you may have to pay to put it in a locker.

Good advice - it's nearly always the case that that they'll take your camera off you, and it's not worth the expense/ queuing etc. to put it in the cloak room!As for all the talk of VIP, it may be worth explaining to the OP or anyone else listening in that it's not particularly exclusive any more (or wasn't last I went a couple of years ago - I had a breather from the island whilst I had a missus but I intend to be back in full force this year!
).... On some nights it's possible to pay your way in if you're friendly with a local bar (they often have a deal with a promoter to take an extra 15 quid or so per head and split the profits - but don't get tricked into thinking you'll get a table in VIP as they're silly money!)...I'm usually loathe to do so as I'm just there to have a great night clubbing, not hang about and pose (the drinks cost even more in VIP too!) - but it can be a nice way to spend make the evening more relaxing if you're not feeling like being 'down with the kids' - worth doing at least once!
