2 Nights in Dubai on a budget

We are going to the Seychelles in July, but have 2 nights in Dubai first as it's a free stopover and am hoping to save some money on a diamond. Can anyone recommend the best area to stay in to get around? I am on a bit of a budget ( as I spent it all on the Seychelles) - hoping to get a hotel for around £60 a night through lastminute.com and there a few 4 star options but I'm not sure what area is best?

Also - things to do? Again I don't want to be eating at Burj al-Arab etc. so nice restaurants and things to do without breaking the bank ( I know it's hard in Dubai - having been before!!)

We stayed at the world trade centre (Novotel) it had a free bus & was around £60 a night a couple of years ago.
Nice place.

Or try Golden Sands. Not too bad, nice and quiet, and only a short walk from the creek and the metro.
