Little bit of advice needed.

After myself and two friends spent a week riding through Spanish mountains on our motorbikes, sleeping in fields or forrests and generaly living like feral beasts. We bumped into another chap at the port on his bike who had ridden a great distance from calais, through the alps, Andorra, through Portugal and up through Northern Spain. He told us he stayed in hotels every night. I asked if he had to pre-book or ring ahead. He said he always just turned up. Thinking this must be a very expensive option yet noticing his 24 yr old FJ 1200 and his tracky bottoms I enquired. He told us his hotels were always 20 Euros a night. Which frankly made me feel like a birk for living like an animal.

My experience of rocking up at hotels abroad usually ends up with me handing over a minimum of 80 Euros. This chap even reckoned he had a few hotels in Andorra for 17 Euros. Also mentioned on the whole trip he only had one bad room.

So. Whats the trick. How was he doing this. Was he winding us up. Is this possible. Someone must have some experience of hotels and they're costs.

Depends on how busy the hotel is, if they are quiet and the 20 euros covers the cost of overheads and still brings in a profit then it could be possible if you speak to the right person on the reception, but all hotels for 20 euros seems a bit of a tall tale. I work in a hotel and the overheads including brekfast are less than a tenner but we never get desperate and sell for £20.

have done the Pyrenees 3 time snow exploring Andorra etc. We stay in Andorra for a night and usually Pau for a night, but the rest of the time we rough camp.

It is FAR more fun than staying in a hotel. With 8 of us we did get some monster deals though biggrin

So it seems he was bulling us. Hmmm, Shame as the other lads have bought superbikes to go out again on the premiss that the accomodation is 20Euro per night. HA.

Im sure we could pack much lighter next time and wild camp every other night. Sometimes feel a bit scruuffy turning up at hotels after a few days camping wild. lol.
