Around mid July I'am intending on having a jaunt over to Wales to sample the asphalt delights on offer plus maybe a bit of walking and history.

I have my route (shamelessly stolen from a couple of routes already posted) - http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&a...

What I'm not sure on is places to stay around the area (I'm thinking around Merthyr Tydfil would be a good middle ground/base) and good places to go for History/exploration.
A nice small hotel/B&B with parking would be ideal with some decent pubs/restaurants around the area, possibly around £100 a night or less. I'm only really intending to stay for 2/3 nights.

Is there a better place to base myself for a couple of days or is that a nice place to stay?

I know very little about this area, have previously only been to Cardiff to watch some rugby. tongue out

Cheers all!

Matt..

Make sure you do some walking in Brecon! You drive straight past Pen-y-fan with your route smile

We can tell you don't know the area - I can't think anyone would choose Merthyr Tydfil as a base!

As per the above suggestion, head further north towards Brecon...

after they were on The Hotel Inspector hehe

If you want to stay further west (recommended) then you will get no better than

http://www.harbour-master.com/

with loads to see and do all up and down the coast (and inland)

Last time I went there I mat Warren Gatland (Wales Rugby coach) - smashing bloke smile
