Running down to Lyon from Somerset for a weekend at the end of July and Troyes looks ideal for an overnight stop. Will have a bit of time there in the evening so would like a mooch around and prefer to stay somewhere a bit more authentic in town rather than out on an industrial park!

Never been there, anyone else done anything similar there with ideas? Trip Advisor loaded with stuff but you chaps are much better at this!

I stopped in Troyes a couple of years ago and stayed at the Cometes De Champagne.

In the middle of the town, bit of a pain in the arse to find and has covered parking. Quirky place , but i'd stay there again.

Stayed here for 2 nights in May, fantastic location 3 minutes walk into the very lively town centre, masses of resaurants and very pretty medaieval French buildings.
The hotel has only a few rooms and ours was huge! 200€ per night They have private parking space but only enough for 3 cars so you will need to book the space if you require it. 15€ per night
We absolutely loved the hotel but were disappointed with the breakfast offered, it was appalling! I wouldn't recommend paying 18€ for it neither would we consider evening meal there, grossly expensive a zero atmosphere.
Having said that I d definitely stay there again.
If you have time take the minor road south from Troyes to Semur en Auxerre, we were in a Porsche convoy and the roads were just fantastic driving roads with very few other cars. Semur is a beautiful place to stop for a coffee en route.

Enjoy

Don't know what your budget is, but this was good for us a few years ago for cheaps:

Nice and central, with a bit of character. I've yet to find a hotel on TA without some crashingly bad reviews, so tend to be guided by the majority tendency... smile

I've heard about the dodgy breakfast on TA are their good places in town for coffee and croissant?

Loads of places to grab some breakfast, only a few minutes in to the city centre by foot!

Great news, it sounds like a decent place to stop then. Appreciate the ideas, thanks very much.
