... so, bad idea? The Foreign Office don't seem to see a problem so long as you're not within 40km of Libya and the place we're looking at is well away (on the east/north east coast). They seem to think the internal problems have been sorted though I'm not sure if the state of emergency is still active?

What's the consensus?

Also - anyone got any recommendations of a nice place for a family of 4 (two adults, a 4 year old and a 3 year old). Budget approx. £2k. Nothing too hot.

Thank you!

I asked a similar Q last week with a similar response, I'm afraid. Some great deals around - I was looking at Djerba as it's isolated from the mainland to a degree.

We went twice last year to Club Med Hammamet with our 2 little ones (2 and 4). Brilliant kids club, great value, nice beach, and lovely weather. It's isolated enough from the city too.

Went last April and it was hot hot hot!! and that was before the really hot weather. Also went to Hammamet and it was good for a week, but I did not really like the place or the way of selling (yes I know it´s how it´s done, but it´s not really to my liking)
Worth it if you want sun, a good complex and some relaxation. (hotel staff were very good)
I would not go back as there are lots of other places to go, but it´s a tick in the box

July/August is very hot (c40C), I would certainly have a look for deals - Djerba/Hammamet/Port el Kantoui and Sousse are all pretty good to visit

Thanks chaps. Looks like it may be off the list. I can't stand excessive heat and I'd certainly not like my toddlers to have to bear it too.

Cheers for the info, though! thumbup

Always thought the PH consensus on Tunisia was that the place is a toilet and a significant majority of visitors spend a couple of days staying within a 20 second sprint of a toilet.

That was certainly my experience anyway.

We went in April, not surprisingly got a very good deal £540 for 2 of us AI for a week. In your situation I’d be more put off by the heat than safety issues.

TBH for the price we paid I couldn’t knock it at all, hotel was excellent as was the food, spent 4 times as much to go to the Caribbean which in reality wasn’t any better. It was a toilet outside of the hotel though and I’d expect you get harassed at every turn once you’re outside your hotel. But for a week in the sun by the pool with some books it was awesome.
