So I'm taking Mrs H up to Hull for a family reunion a few days before xmas, a room full of in laws, she can't wait laugh .

Anyway, we haven't sorted any other christmas plans yet so I was thinking maybe go away for a few days after that, would be from the 23rd Dec for anything up to a week.

Anywhere northern England or Scotland is an option.

Nice hotel would be OK so long as it doesn't get rammed with screaming kids (yes, bah humbug etc but we haven't got any of our own and don't need to pay for a christmas where everything is centred round everyone else's!).

Alternatively somewhere self catering but in that case looking for an interesting building, big views or something that makes it really stand out.

Fairly flexible on cost I guess, main thing is finding somewhere that we really fancy.

All suggestions very welcome!

http://www.swintonpark.com/

Not too far from the town itself, where you've got the Theakston's and Black Sheep breweries. Nice countryside round about, and only an hour or so drive to the Lake District if the weather is up to it.

Cheers for those suggestions, I've done a Landmark place before in Devon, amazing location and well worth trying another one so I'll take a look at that.

Swinton looks good but the idea of coming down to see Santa on xmas morning makes me want to run and hide rage . Probably worth a visit during any of the other 360 days for me at least!

Hadn't spotted that, sorry mate. There's probably somewhere you can hide from the old perv though.

Or you could spend the morning emptying your sack in your young lady's bedroom. If you were so inclined.

I'll suggest that to her but knowing my luck she'd rather go and sit on Santa's knee laugh

If you want no kids got to be self catering?

This website is pretty good https://www.ruralretreats.co.uk/ if so.

Was recommended to me by a couple of friends who are both fussy buggers....we rented a place in Cornwall through it which was brilliant.
