Not sure if its a 5 star, as its been a while, but the business rooms in the Palace Hotel used to be excellent a couple of years back, and the staff are good at service, which is unusual for Manchester.

Stayed at the Lowry a couple of times. Really rate it.

Lowry still considered the best, but the Radisson Edwardian is also popular.

I live right in the middle of Manchester, The Radisson is good, as is the Lowry, though actually that's in Salford, but is a short walk from the city centre (less than 5 minutes). The Midland is also nice and is very central. The Hilton is very nice too and is situated at the end of Deansgate, very close to my flat. It's the huge ugly skyscraper that you'll see on your way into MCR.

I always stay in THe Midland, which I like cos it is central and quite grand in an old fashioned way..also I once had a drink with George Best in the residents bar there!..and if you are into the whole celeb thing it is also alleged to be the place that Becks first nailed Posh!..

however I haven't stayed there for a couple of years so..

I've used Malmaison - right opposite the main station which is handy.
