We're considering a driving trip to Tuscany in a few weeks. I've driven to Toulouse, driven round Germany and Italy before, but never driven from the UK to Italy. How long do you think it would take, at a reasonable pace, to get to near Lucca?

Was planning on using the tunnel, we live near Manchester. I thought it's a good two whole days travel, as long as we arrive in France early on say a Monday, arrive in Tuscany around late Tues, possibly Wed.

Couple of days would do it. We went via Germany (France and Belgium route there). You can stop overnight n Germany and then duck down via Austia and be there for next evening.

Thanks wink

Liking the sound of that, we've good friends in Buchloe, Bavaria which would be a handy stopover.

I've just got back from Lucca. Plan on staying somewhere between Lyon - Grenoble and Dijon on your first night. Then take the Route Napoleon (N85) to French Riviera. Drive from Nice To Ventimiglia on the coast Road, then Autoroute to Lucca. Fabulous City, if you are planning on staying within the old city, make sure your hotel organises parking.
